Wisdom Garden Opens!!

.

The Wisdom Garden Circle will open on Sunday, November 20 and then every 2nd Sunday through June 2023, serving children in grades K-5th. Rabbi David will lead songs and prayers and then the children will join their respective teachers, Para Rabbi Cyrise and Jeanne Robins. Contact Ayala@ashlandhavurah.org to register and/or for more info.

Para Rabbi Cyrise will be guiding the 3-5th graders through a year of Jewish Learning focused on the 4 seasons and the overlay with Jewish Holidays and special ways we observe them through foods, rituals, songs and prayers.  We’ll look at our own family trees and consider how we are part of the family tree of the Hebrew tribe. We’ll sing, dance, learn middle eastern rhythms, and plant trees. We’ll consider the beauty and meaning of the Aleph Bet, and begin learning prayers and songs from the Shabbat Morning liturgy.  We’ll write our own poems/prayers, we’ll make mezzuzot, we’ll bake bread, and make matzoh ball soup! We’ll explore Judaism through our senses and through building our community together. We’ll hear stories from the Torah and ask questions together as we find the connections between these ancient writings and our personal lives.  This promises to be a very rich and playful year of learning and growing together.

Jeanne Robin will teach K-2 and comes to Wisdom Garden from Portland where she taught preschool and Kindergarten at Portland Jewish Academy and K through 2 in the Centennial School District for 20 years.

At PJA she used projects to integrate school subjects using Art, Dance, Puppetry and story. She is looking forward to exploring Jewish themes with our young ones in the Wisdom Garden. Together, we will hear about Jewishness through story and song. The overriding theme is Jewish Community and Tikkun Olam. With new friends, the children will use the Jewish cycles of the year to grow new Jewish awareness. Together we will wonder and discover through story, dance, music and art.
